pointing out that a character is being used as a plot device doesn’t mean you’re demeaning them as a character it means you’re pointing out and understanding that a company/author/film is terrible to some of it’s characters and uses them as less than humans and more as plot devices.

take women for example. no one is saying that because 3 or 4 women, out of say 20, die to further a malecentric plot that that demeans the role of the other women. no one is saying that it makes all of the women simply plot devices. because then heck you could argue well then every character’s just a plot device. and well they all fuckin die because it’s based in the past so they are all dead that’s kind of the futility of life.

the women in assassin’s creed are fucking badass they’re amazing but there’s one to every five men. and a lot of what happens to them happens off screen. claudia becoming an assassin is great and taking over for him whilst he’s in turkey killing people is amazing. but you never see it. you never play it. you just hear about it from ezio (i think? idk i blanked a lot of revelations). maria helping giovanni is gREAT but once again, you dont see it, you don’t play it.

INCLUDE CLAUDIA HELPING OUT AFTER SHE BECOMES AN ASSASSIN. WOMEN PLAY A VITAL ROLE IN HISTORY, LIKE CATERINA SFORZA. WHY ARE SOME OTHER WOMEN JUST THERE TO BE A PLOT DEVICE. if someone turned around and said “there are 200 characters. 20 are people of colour and 1/5 of those fictional, not historical reimaginings, die, this isn’t equal representation why did they die to further a white person’s plot” you wouldn’t say “but white people died too see” thAT’S NOT THE POINT BEING MADE

TLDR POINTING OUT 1/5 OF WOMEN BEING USED AS PLOT DEVICES IN A GAME IS NOT SAYING ALL WOMEN ARE PLOT DEVICES. IT’S SAYING THE TROPE IS BORING AND UNIMAGINATIVE AND POINTING OUT A FLAW OF THE GAME DEVELOPERS BUT THAT DOESNT MEAN YOU SHOULD STOP PLAYING/READING/ANYTHING. BE AN ACTIVE CONSUMER NOT A PASSIVE ONE WHO DOESNT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM
